Morals of the Clone Wars 1.16: The Hidden Enemy

Moral: “Truth enlightens the mind, but won’t always bring happiness to your heart.”

Jesus told us that the truth will set us free. It’s not a freedom we always desire.

Truth means looking honestly at ourselves. We tend to ignore the things in our lives that we need to work on (though we can be very good at seeing those faults in others). Sometimes, as truths come to light, they don’t necessarily bring happiness. When we confess the sins we’ve been hiding for years, it can sometimes hurt those around us. But truth is good.

Jesus never promised happiness. He promised joy. There’s a big difference. Happiness is a temporary feeling based on what happens to us. Joy is an inner condition produced by knowing we are loved by God deeply. Joy is not dependent on external factors. So while truth my not bring happiness, it does bring us into the light. And moving from the darkness into light is a major source of joy.
